Welcome

This handbook is intended to serve a variety of purposes and audiences. High school students and their parents who are considering Chemistry at UB will find information about our programs and facilities that will help them in their selection of a college or university. Similarly, UB freshmen and sophomores who are considering Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry as their major will find this handbook useful in planning their program of study. From the course descriptions and degree requirements given here, students who are transferring from other colleges to UB will learn which courses at their schools will count toward satisfying our degree requirements.

Also, UB students who are considering changing their major to Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry will also find this handbook useful. There are a number of courses in other departments in the university, particularly in chemical engineering and health sciences, which are similar enough in content to some of our required courses to allow these as replacements. Students who are considering a minor in Chemistry or simply students who wish to take a Chemistry course should find our course descriptions useful.

Finally, this handbook is for our own majors. It will help them plan their program, choose a research advisor, find help for their courses, search out academic resources and learn about extracurricular activities, etc.
